The C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago hosts Matthew Fox in a weekend intensive of lectures on Spirituality, Mysticism, and Mother Earth:

Two Days with Renowned Ecotheologian and Author Matthew Fox

to Benefit the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago

Friday, October 26,
and Saturday, October 27, 2018

10:00 AM–4:00 PM

Friday, October 26 | Tau Center, A Ministry of the Wheaton Franciscans (26W171 Roosevelt Rd, Wheaton, IL 60187)

Morning: How Mysticism Confronts the Disturbing Plight of our Planet
Our times are full of denial on one hand and despair on the other vis-a-vis climate change and ecocide on planet Earth. We will explore the medicine of the mystics to confront both denial and despair, and to find a path to hope that includes action, new movements, and what Naomi Klein calls "the internal work [that] is crucial as we come together in resistance and transformation." The Order of the Sacred Earth may be such a movement and community for our work to defend Mother Earth.

Afternoon: Archetypes for Our Time
Jung said archetypes arise when we need them, and Marion Woodman described how archetypes can light huge fires in our souls. We will discuss some current archetypes calling us in deep ways at this time of Earth crisis and urging us to grow up as a species and undergo our next evolutionary stage of consciousness that leads to action for justice. Among these archetypes might be Father Sky, the Green Man, Spiritual Warrior, Black Madonna, Cosmic Xst (Buddha Nature, Tselem, or Image of God).

Saturday, October 27 | Fourth Presbyterian Church/Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being (126 E Chestnut St, Chicago, IL 60611)

Morning: Mystics Empowering Us to Wake Up for Earth's Sake
Mystics get to the essence of religion and take us to the edges of consciousness. We will learn from the deep teachings of such mystics as Thomas Merton, Meister Eckhart, Mary Oliver, Hildegard of Bingen, Thomas Berry, Rabbi Heschel, Howard Thurman, Dorothee Söelle.

Afternoon: Deep Ecumenism and Other Practices for Awakening and Sustaining the Mystic In and Around Us
We are all mystics. The world's spiritual traditions all display the wisdom of the unitive (non-dualist) or mystic experience. Contemporary science teaches how ancient spiritual practices affect our bodies and brains (and hopefully our souls). We will consider some of the teachings of spiritual traditions and some findings from science. We will also engage in spiritual practices including chanting, grieving, Stations of the Cosmic Christ, and reading the mystics.
